That sliver of light at the bottom of the closed door, could be from the unshaded bulb, or the muted impression of the glow from a dimmed chandelier.
A faint line of light coming through the gap in the slats of the window blinds, then embedding itself on the kitchen wall, could be from the sun, the moon or a distant star.
Or in another time and place in which these things no longer occur with normal regularity, it could be the Burden Keeper, arrived and ready.
